Justin Winters, the creator of J. Winters Fine Art, is a wood artist from Scottsville, NY.
Each work of art is meticulously created using responsibly sourced timber, meaning only trees that have already been felled are used. Careful attention is given to grain structure, with each piece continually reevaluated throughout the making process to guide form and refinement.
After years of working with wood, Justin has come to expect and embrace cracks, voids, and irregularities that are inherent to wood as a medium, which guide his creative direction and process. Many of the shapes, textures, and carved elements in each piece are inspired by these natural "flaws." There is a particular beauty in work that emerges through the combined influence of both maker and material.
Justin's work has earned regional and national recognition, including selection as an exhibitor for the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C.
The logo for J. Winters Fine Art was designed by Justin and reflects two of his primary influences: woodturning and marine life. It is intended to suggest both a jellyfish and a wooden vessel being turned on a lathe.
